How We Grow
How We Grow
We are a startup, agtech business, we do plan (and dream) of growing and scaling our business so every community can have access to high-quality, pesticide-free, nutrient-dense microgreens, year-round. But maybe a bit different than other agtech farms, we do believe that the basic principles and values of farming need to come first. We are growing food and our ultimate goal is for people to have a happy and healthy life - this is what drives our decisions. Shall we dive into how we currently grow your microgreens?
It all starts here
Food safety first. We feed our family and your family with what we grow and that is one of the reasons we do this in a commercial, transparent way.
Our farm is located in a commercial/retail location (you can literally see your microgreens growing). We work in partnership with the local Health Unit and OMAFRA (Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs) to make sure we are consistently inspected and having our products being tested for microbial analysis.
We are not basement growers, we control our environment to make sure we have the best conditions to grow, and we will keep working to have outstanding food safety protocols in place.
The soil(less)
We use substrate to grow your microgreens, a blend of sustainably harvested Canadian sphagnum peat moss and eco-friendly natural fibre wood. It's an all-natural, safe, and bio-degradable growing media to grow the greens.
You will probably smell our substrate when you walk into our farm store - that fresh, ground aroma, like walking into a garden.

Our seeds
The quality and safety of your microgreens start from the seed level. We purchase them from a credible supplier with high standards for high seed quality, meeting or exceeding federal minimum requirements for germination rates, pathogen testing, and traceability.
All seeds are Non-GMO (Safe Seed Pledge).
Germination
Once sowing is complete, it's time for the seeds to germinate and they do that in the dark for a few days. They are manually misted every day to make sure they get what they need to properly germinate.
(Watch out for upcoming news about our new, designed by us, automated germination carts - we can't wait!)
Time to grow
After they germinate, we bring them under grow lights so they can develop their first leaves and become microgreens.
We currently manually water each and every one of them. They all require different care, so we make sure they get everything they individually need to grow well.
(We also designed our own production modules that will soon substitute these current carts and allow us to automate all growing processes, including irrigation).
Harvesting
Once they become microgreens, they become ready for harvest. We harvest them all manually. This way, we are able to harvest them perfectly, removing what you shouldn't eat, and leaving all the goodness ready-to-eat for you. We trim and properly check each handful we harvest and how we package them.
Also, everything we sell it's harvested same day, if not within a couple of hours, or even on the spot, like when you come to the store.
This is a step in our process they we will very careful to bring automation, as we want to make sure we keep the same quality.
